Well, we’ve seen some recent movement. Fife Council have now confirmed in writing that the legal report on rights of access which BHAT submitted fourteen months ago is “accurate in regards to the law”. It’s taken a long time to get to this point, but it is a major advance as Fife Council have a statutory duty to ensure that public rights of access are respected.
The Council, though, have questioned two aspects of the report, both to which we have responded. The Council has also said they require more evidence. BHAT has asked for further detail of the evidence required and has committed to provide any such evidence the Council may require in order for them to draw a firm conclusion.
Councillors Julie MacDougall and Kathleen Leslie are proposing a ‘motion’ to the next full meeting of the Council. This applies further significant pressure for action. Likewise David Torrance MSP will again be raising the matter in the Scottish Parliament.
We certainly aren’t there yet, but we’ll keep fighting for our community rights of access.
